Bridgewater Police Officers Daniel Gibson and Daniel Nastari Honored with MADD Massachusetts OUI Excellence Awards

June 10, 2025 by Cody Shepard

Chief Christopher Delmonte and the Bridgewater Police Department are proud to announce that Officers Daniel J. Gibson and Daniel A. Nastari have each been honored with an OUI Excellence Award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for their outstanding commitment to impaired driving enforcement.

MADD Massachusetts recognized more than 50 law enforcement officials during the Annual Law Enforcement Recognition Ceremony on Tuesday morning at the Devens Common Center. In addition to OUI Excellence Awards, MADD recognized the Officer of the Year, Trooper of the Year, Drug Recognition Expert of the Year, MADD Lifetime Achievement Award and Unit of the Year.

Officers Gibson and Nastari have been proactive patrol officers who accounted for the bulk of Bridgewater Police’s OUI enforcement activities in 2024.

“Officers Gibson and Nastari are both exceptional police officers who understand the immediate danger impaired driving poses to our community,” said Chief Delmonte. “Their strong work ethic, professionalism and consistent enforcement efforts have made our roads safer. They absolutely deserve this recognition, and I am proud of their efforts and grateful for their service.”

MADD Massachusetts annually honors officers, departments and prosecutors from across the Commonwealth who have gone above and beyond in the fight against drunk and drugged driving.

Bridgewater Police Department Reminds Residents That Fireworks Are Illegal Statewide

June 27, 2025 By Cody Shepard

As the Fourth of July holiday approaches quickly, we would like to remind residents that the recreational use of fireworks is illegal in Massachusetts.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services, there have been more than 550 fires and explosions involving illegal fireworks in Massachusetts in the past five years. Six firefighters were injured in these incidents, and damages were estimated at nearly $1 million.

Between 2019 and 2023, Massachusetts medical facilities treated more than 200 people for burns and other injuries associated with fireworks. Two dozen people were treated for severe burn injuries that covered 5% or more of the victim’s body.

The possession, use and sale of fireworks without a professional license is against the law in Massachusetts and punishable by confiscation, fine or imprisonment. Fines range from $100 to $1,000, and some violations could carry a one-year prison sentence.

Please leave fireworks to the professionals!

In Bridgewater, the Bridgewater 4th of July Committee is hosting a professional fireworks display, scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, July 4, at Legion Field, located at 175 Bedford Street.

For more information on state-permitted fireworks displays, visit: https://www.mass.gov/info-details/leave-fireworks-to-the-professionals
