BRIDGEWATER — Chief Christopher D. Delmonte is pleased to share that the Bridgewater Police Department has been awarded $40,000 in state grant funding to improve road safety.
The Healey-Driscoll Administration awarded more than $12.4 million in funding through the Municipal Road Safety, State Agency Traffic Safety and Underserved Communities Traffic Safety Grant Programs.
The Bridgewater Police Department received funding through the Municipal Road Grant Safety Program. The funding will allow departments to afford road safety initiatives such as traffic safety enforcement, bicyclist and pedestrian safety enforcement, non-enforcement activities such as training or community events and the purchase of traffic safety equipment or other community safety items.
The Municipal Road Grant Safety Program has traffic enforcement campaigns throughout the year that include:
- Winter impaired driving
- Distracted driving
- Click It or Ticket
- Speeding
- Summer impaired driving
Officers taking part in these traffic enforcement campaigns as part of the grant also address additional traffic violations they see during this time.
“The recent funding from the Municipal Road Safety Grant will have a significant impact on our traffic enforcement, as it has in the past years we received it,” Chief Delmonte said. “The funding will allow the department to supplement staffing and allow assigned officers to focus on traffic safety issues strictly. This grant will help significantly increase our department’s detection of impaired driving and possibly discourage potential offenders because of our additional presence.”
