BRIDGEWATER — Chief Christopher D. Delmonte is pleased to share that the Bridgewater Police Department and the Cops for Kids with Cancer organization presented a check to a Bridgewater family with a child battling cancer.
On Tuesday, Dec. 12, parents of Kash Doughty, Kaitlyn Silva and Kevin Doughty, accepted a $5,000 check from Cops for Kids with Cancer and an additional $3,000 from the Bridgewater Police Association. Kash, age 3, has been battling Ewing sarcoma since September.
In support of Kash and his family, Chief Delmonte nominated Kash for the donation. The check was presented at the Bridgewater Police Department in a brief ceremony that included members of the Bridgewater Police Department and members of the Cops for Kids with Cancer organization.
Ewing sarcoma is a rare type of cancer. It often grows in bone but can also grow in soft tissue connected to bone. This may include tendons, ligaments, cartilage or muscles.
Cops for Kids with Cancer is a nonprofit organization that provides funds to families across New England who have children who are battling cancer. The organization now provides checks to eight families per month across New England.
Funds from Cops for Kids with Cancer can be used for anything and are meant to help families fill the many gaps in finances that a cancer diagnosis can create. Funds can be used to help with medical bills, or more routine costs such as transportation or household needs that can often be overlooked when medical bills pile up.
Any police department in New England can sponsor a family with a child battling cancer.
The department extended the No-Shave November Initiative through December to allow members of the Bridgewater Police Association to raise an additional $3,000 for Kash and his family.
