BRIDGEWATER — Chief Christopher Delmonte reports that the Bridgewater Police Department has charged a man who allegedly led officers on a foot pursuit following a motorcycle crash last night.
LUCAS GUIMARAES, AGE 24, OF PEMBROKE was charged with:
- Reckless Operation of Motor Vehicle
- Speeding
- Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Property Damage
- Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class B Substance (Cocaine)
At approximately 7:35 p.m. on Friday, May 22, Bridgewater Police officers spotted two sport-style motorcycles operating recklessly on Pleasant Street at estimated speeds of 80 miles per hour.
Bridgewater Police Motorcycle Officer Jack Hennessey attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop on the motorcycles, but both motorcycles failed to stop. The operator of the first motorcycle attempted to perform a “wheelie,” but lost control and crashed in the area of 535 Pleasant St. after striking a mailbox. The operator was later identified as GUIMARAES.
After crashing, GUIMARAES fled on foot and was observed ditching a backpack in the woods. Officers caught up with the GUIMARAES and began rendering aid for serious visible injuries believed to have been sustained in the crash.
GUIMARAES was transported to Brockton’s Good Samaritan Medical Center by a Bridgewater Fire Department ambulance for further evaluation.
Upon further investigation, officers found multiple individually packaged plastic bags inside the backpack. The plastic bags contained a white powdery substance, which tested positive for cocaine. The backpack also contained a sum of money.
GUIMARAES was issued a summons to appear in Brockton District Court at a later date.
The second motorcycle operator continued to flee from officers toward the intersection of Prospect and Vernon Streets. The identity of the second operator is still under investigation by Officer Hennessey.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information about the incident is asked to call Officer Hennessey at 508-697-6118.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
