Note: The following is a press release issued by the Fall River Police Department regarding the Bridgewater Police Department’s involvement in a FRPD investigation:
FALL RIVER — As reported earlier, on Sunday, Oct. 27, at approximately 11:15 p.m., uniformed officers of the Fall River Police Department were dispatched to the area of 164 Tremont St. for a report of multiple shots fired.
There was also a 911 call placed by the victims after they fled the area of that shooting stating they were on Columbia Street and in need of immediate medical attention.
Officers were able to find the shooting victims and begin treatment while waiting for paramedics.
Officers located nine 7.62 caliber shell casings in the area of 164 Tremont St.
This was not a random act. It was a targeted incident with the shooter and all victims placing themselves in that area at that time.
The Fall River Police Department Major Crime Division, led by Detective Luis Vertentes, along with the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office have been actively investigating the shooting and as a result, Detective Vertentes obtained two search warrants for residences in Bridgewater and Lakeville.
With the assistance of the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) SWAT unit, as well as detectives from both Bridgewater and Lakeville, the warrants were executed in the early morning hours of Nov. 13 in a cumulative effort to search for evidence.
In Bridgewater, ammunition and drugs were located at the residence of 45 Wood St.
In Lakeville, a firearm (a Springfield 9mm loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition) was located at 2 Commercial Drive, Apartment 8204.
Mervin Dixon of 2 Commercial Drive was placed under arrest for a Probation Violation Warrant and he will be facing charges in Bridgewater and Lakeville.
The Fall River Police Department appreciates the assistance and cooperation from both the Bridgewater and Lakeville Police Departments, who were instrumental in the execution of both warrants.
Any inquiries regarding criminal charges are being referred to the Bridgewater and Lakeville Police Departments for comment.
