Bridgewater Police Cite Motorist after Child is Struck in Crosswalk
BRIDGEWATER — Chief Christopher Delmonte reports that the Bridgewater Police Department is investigating an incident in which a child was struck by a motor vehicle.
Police, fire, and EMS responded to the intersection of Center and Mt. Prospect streets near the Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School at approximately 3:30 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian struck. Upon arrival, rescuers found a male child, age 7, who had been struck by a pickup truck.
The child was riding a scooter with his mother at the time of the incident and was in a crosswalk when he was struck.
The victim was taken by Bridgewater Fire Department ambulance to a Boston hospital with injuries that are considered serious but not life-threatening. Both the boy and his mother, who was not injured, are from Bridgewater.
The motorist remained at the scene. He is identified as a 31-year-old Harvard man, and he was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck.
The driver was cited for Failure to Stop for a Pedestrian in a Crosswalk.
This incident remains under investigation by the Bridgewater Police Department.
