Bridgewater Police Investigating Armed Bank Robbery
BRIDGEWATER — Chief Christopher D. Delmonte reports that the Bridgewater Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred at a local bank earlier today.
At approximately 11:15 a.m., police responded to Eastern Bank, 110 Main St., for a bank alarm and reports of a robbery.
Upon arrival, officers learned that the suspect allegedly showed a knife to the teller and demanded money. The suspect then fled the building through the rear door with an undetermined amount of cash.
Due to the proximity of the bank to local schools, a shelter in place was ordered, and a search was conducted. A perimeter was established by the Bridgewater Police Department with assistance from Bridgewater State University Police and West Bridgewater Police, and the Bridgewater K-9 unit was dispatched during the search. The order was lifted after approximately one hour.
The suspect is described as a white male in his mid-20s, approximately 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, last seen wearing a black hoodie, dark pants, dark sneakers and sunglasses.
The matter is under investigation by Bridgewater Police Department Detectives and the F.B.I. Violent Crimes Task Force.
Anyone with any information regarding this incident, or who recognizes the suspect, is asked to contact the Bridgewater Police Department at 508-697-6118.
